You will save time and money because veneers can address multiple issues at once, including stains, chips, and gaps. However, your smile transformation won’t happen overnight. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of what you can expect when getting veneers.

Process of Getting Veneers

A veneer is a thin customized restoration that covers the front surface of a tooth to improve its size, shape, and color. Veneers can correct many imperfections using one minimally invasive procedure by bonding them to the teeth that show when you smile. Your first step towards an attractive smile is a consultation with your cosmetic dentist.

Initial Consultation

Your dentist will examine your mouth and learn more about your goals to ensure veneers are right for you. They will create a personalized treatment plan and explain how many veneers you will need to achieve a picture-perfect smile. Based on the results of their examination, you may need a little prep work before getting veneers.

Preparatory Treatments

Your teeth and gums must be healthy before any elective service, including porcelain veneers. It’s not unusual to require preparatory treatments, like a dental cleaning, filling, or gum disease therapy.

Etching and Impressions

After you’ve recovered from any preliminary procedures, you’ll be scheduled for the first phase of your treatment. Your dentist will shave off a small amount of enamel from the front sides of your teeth. This is necessary to ensure a flat bonding surface for your veneers. It will also prevent any uncomfortable or unsightly ridges or ledges.

Your dentist will take a conservative approach to maintain more of your tooth structure. Once your teeth have been prepared, your cosmetic dentist will capture a digital impression of your mouth. They will use the detailed images to create your personalized veneers.

Temporary Veneers

Your cosmetic dentist will send your impression and information to a dental lab. It can take the lab a couple of weeks to craft your veneers. Your dentist will apply temporary veneers before you leave your preparation appointment. Not only will they protect your teeth while you wait, but they also allow you to “try on” your new smile.

Placing Your Final Veneers

You will return to your dentist after the dental lab has sent your veneers to their office. Your cosmetic dentist will remove your temporary restorations and bond your final veneers to your teeth.

You will walk out of your appointment with a stunning smile to be proud of. Your veneers can last for a decade or more with the right care, like brushing and flossing. Regular appointments with your dentist will help you get the most from your new smile.
